Hero Ingredients Explained
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): Niacinamide synthesizes the production of ceramides which is essential for a healthy skin barrier which improves hydration in the skin as well as keeping the skin youthful. It is an anti-inflammatory which would address many skin concerns like acne, rosacea and eczema. Niacinamide also very well known for its brightening affects that assist with hyperpigmentation and dark spots. It is also a great active ingredient for people with sensitive skin as it is gentle and does not cause any type of reaction in the skin. Niacinamide also helps regulate and stabilize oil production in the skin and it retains moisture in the skin by reducing water loss from skin.
Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Panthenol acts as both a moisturizer and a humectant, helping to moisturize skin and lock in moisture. It will help to create the appearance of a brighter, smoother complexion and will improve the appearance of skin tone and radiance. It works beautifully with all skin types. It also assists in stabilizing your skin’s barrier function which increases the amount of water your skin holds on to. It also soothes and softens skin by plumping up the topmost layer of your skin to look fuller and less lined.
Bulbinella: Bulbinella is a collagen booster obtained from the leaf sap of the South African medical plant Bulbine frutescens. Skin Collagen management is essential, because uncontrolled activation of collagen synthesis can lead to the induction of inflammatory processes and the development of low quality collagen. Thanks to the active substances knipholone and acetylated polymannose, Bulbinella recalibrates the equilibrium between the decomposition and reconstruction of dermal structures, thus providing the skin with an extra portion of high quality collagen.
Zinc: Zinc is an anti-inflammatory and therefore assists in fighting acne and other inflammatory conditions like rosacea and eczema. Zinc also assists in the fight against acne because it suppresses the production of excess sebum. Zinc is an essential mineral for the production of collagen and elastin – the proteins that keep our skin looking plump, line-free and youthful. Zinc is also an antioxidant which is key for fighting free radicals.
Inulin: Inulin is a type of prebiotic. Our skin is made up of good bacteria known as probiotics. Probiotics are good, friendly bacteria similar to the natural microflora present in the gut and the skin. Prebiotics are not bacteria but substances (dietary fibers) that help maintain the activity and stimulate healthy flora. Prebiotics essentially “feed” the probiotics to help maintain a healthy and balanced skin barrier. Inulin is also a natural humectant that is a water drawing magnet that pulls moisture from the environment into the skin and keeps it hydrated. Inulin also acts as a skin-conditioning agent by forming a protective thin film layer on the skin, which leaves the skin smooth and supple.
Marula: Marula oil is rich in linoleic fatty acid, antioxidants and oleic acid, which are essential for the preservation of healthy skin. The oil is easily absorbed into the skin and naturally softens, nourishes and revitalizes.
Kalahari Melon: Kalahari Melon is an excellent source of omega-6 and omega-9 essential fatty acids which stimulates skin cell growth, and it brings the additional benefit of high phytosterol content. It contains anti-oxidants as well as Vitamins A, C and E. It is a lightweight oil that is intensely moisturising and can be used by those with oily or acne-prone skin. The oil can be effective at helping to repair skin damage and scars.
